Happy Tails K9 Training and Agility Center offers an abundance of ongoing classes, as well as a variety of services and private lessons.

We are a family run business, which means we give extra attention to you and your canine companions. our classes are small and they fill up quickly, so if there is a class you are interested in, please either give us a call or send an email. We can also be reached on Facebook.

Obedience Classes

Canine Obedience classes are an imperative part of responsible dog ownership. Dogs of all ages, breeds, and temperament can benefit from obedience training. Beginner classes concentrate on learning basic obedience commands; as-well-as reinforcing the bond between canine and human. Advanced classes focus on increasing obedience commands and preparation for competition.

  • New Rally Obedience

    Rally is a relatively new dog sport sanctioned by the American Kennel Club. Rally is similar to Agility training, in that the dog and handler work as a team. However, Rally differs from Agility as it is slower paced and the obstacles consist of a series of numbered instruction signs. Rally an is an innovative fun experience that takes obedience training to the next level.

     

    • Age Requirement: 6 months and older

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Basic Obedience

    • Price: $160

  • Novice A Obedience Classes

    The Novice A class is the next step after Basic Beginners Obedience training. Focus is on improving the teamwork between handler and dog. Emphasis is placed on increased distractions to prepare handler and the dog for calm sits and stays. Hand signals are introduced and greater distances are added to prepare dogs for off-leash work.

     

    • Age Requirement: 12 months and up

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Basic Beginners Obedience, or equivalent

    • Price: $150

  • Open Levels Competition classes

    This is an advanced class taught for the serious dog show handler and the dogs they show. Classes focus on specific areas of advanced dog show competitions for both handlers and dogs

     

    • Age Requirement: 12 months and up

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Passing Novice B class, or equivalent

    • Price: $155 and up

     

  • Basic Beginners Obedience Classes

    Basic Beginners Obedience training is an essential class for dogs of all breeds and all dog owners. The class focuses on teaching handlers how to interact with their dogs as a team. Emphasis are put on loose-leash walking; as-well-as instructing handlers in the best methods to teach and reinforce basic obedience commands to their dogs. Basic Beginners Obedience is also an imperative class in regards to the all-important socialization of your canine.

     

    • Age Requirement: 6 months and up

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: None

    • Price: $150

  • Novice B Obedience Classes

    The Novice B class continues and emphasizes lessons taught in the Novice A class. This class also prepares dogs and their handlers to compete in Novice Obedience competitions. Dogs work primarily off-leash, with focus on heeling, finishes and all rules and regulations in regards to Novice Competition,

     

    • Age Requirement: 12 months and up

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Passing Novice A class, or equivalent

  • Conformation Classes

    Our conformation classes are designed specifically for you and your dog’s breed, to assist you in achieving show dog completion success. Issues covered: stacking, show preparation, ring etiquette, and any issues or questions you may have in regards to showing your dog.

     

    • Age Requirement: 6 months and older

    • Prerequisite: Novice A, B or equivalent

    • Duration: 1 hour minimum session

    • Price: $60 an hour per session

     

Agility Training

Agility is the ultimate activity for you and your dog. Agility classes are designed to demonstrate a dog’s willingness to work with their handler in a variety of situation. Please keep in mind that agility training is an athletic event that requires conditioning, training, concentration, and teamwork. Dogs and their handlers must negotiate an obstacle course while racing against the clock. The obstacle courses includes: jumps, weaves, poles and among other challenging obstacle.

  • Pre-Agility

    The pre-agility class introduces both you and your dog to a variety of low-level agility obstacles and basic commands. It also instills a sense of socialization as well as coordination in your dog. The pre-agility class stresses the companionship between you and your dog; with emphasis on your dog’s attention to reading your body language.

     

    • Age Requirement: 6 months and older

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Basic Obedience Class, or equivalent

    • Price: $150

  • Beginning Agility

    The beginning agility class is the next step in agility training. Dogs learn to navigate higher-level obstacles, which include contact obstacles such as A-frame and Seasaw. Focus continues on building confidence in your dog, while teaching the owner additional handling skills and commands.

     

    • Age Requirement: 6 months and older

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Pre-Agility (or equivalent)

    • Price: $150

  • Intermediate Agility

    This intermediate agility class continues the skills learned in beginning agility. Additional obstacles are added, as well as increased speed in sequence work. Focus is on creating a dog that is both confident and controlled. Dogs are taught off-leash during their obstacle course session, thus there is additional emphasis on the handler’s skills.

     

    • Age Requirement: 6 months and older

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Beginning Agility

    • Price: $155

  • Novice Agility

    The novice agility is the next progression in agility training. There are 14 to 16 obstacles on the course. Dogs run the course off-leash, thus your dog must obey the sit, stay, down, and come commands off-lead. Although the focus of this course is on your dog performing the obstacles with increased handling skills; emphasis is placed more on the dog’s ability to navigate the obstacles in sequence, than handler’s technique.

     

    • Age Requirement: 1 year and older

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Intermediate Agility

    • Price: $155

  • Open Agility

    Open Agility is an advanced agility training class, with 16 to 18 obstacles on the course. The focus is on added difficultly in regards to obstacle course performance; along with experienced handler’s skill. This is a fast-paced course and requires high energy from both dog and handler.

    • Age Requirement: 1 year and older

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Novice Agility

    • Price: $160

  • Agility Obstacle Proficiency & Crosses

    This specialized class is for the advanced agility dog and handler. The focus is on working in problem areas of agility performances of both dog and handler. Emphasis is put on accuracy as well as safety in all aspects of the agility course.

     

    • Age Requirement: 1 year and older

    • Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Open Agility

    • Price: $155

  • Agility Distraction Proofing

    This specialized class is especially for dogs and their handlers who are continuing their agility training, and/or are concurrently participating in an agility class. If you are serious about agility training and wish to advance to agility competitions, this is a must attend class. The class is specifically tailored toward training dogs to disregard distractions that may occur during official agility events.

     

    • Age Requirement: 1 year and older

    • Duration: 4 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Intermediate Agility, or equivalent

    • Price: $140

  • Fun Run Agility

    If you are unsure if agility training is for you and your dog, take a once around the agility course fun run. Each fun run is designed specifically for your dog’s age and level of training. The Fun Run Agility is for you: if you have never experienced agility training, or if you have had previous agility training and wish to see what our course offers.

     

    • Age Requirement: 6 months or older

    • Duration: Once around an agility course specifically designed for your dog's age and agility level

    • Prerequisite: none

    • Price: $20

  • Private Agility Lessons

    Private agility lessons are available for those who wish to get a competitive-edge for agility competitions. It is also an excellent opportunity to enhance you and your dog’s agility experience with private training to work through specific issues or concerns.

     

    • Age Requirement: 6 months and older

    • Prerequisite: Any level of agility training or agility interest

    • Price: $110 an hour

All Bookings Require a $25.00 Non-Refundable Deposit which must be post-marked at least 2 weeks prior to first day of class. Deposit will be applied to your "balance due" on first day of class. Please call if there is a class you are interested in, even if it is prior to the first day of class, as occasionally, we may have last minute space available.

AKC Good Citizen Classes

Head trainer, Gale Waas, is certified in every aspect of teaching and testing all classes of the AKC Canine Good Citizen programs. Taking one of our accredited American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen classes not only demonstrates to your community that you are a responsible canine owner, with a well-mannered dog; it also gives you the opportunity to earn official AKC certificates and titles.

  • AKC Puppy S.T.A.R Class and Test

    During this class all four aspects of the Puppy S.T.A.R. program (Socialization, Training, Activity and Responsibility) will be covered in depth. The Puppy S.T.A.R. class provides a basis for your puppy to become an obedient and social member of your family, while teaching the handler to be a responsible pet owner.

     

    The focus of the class is an introduction to basic commands (come, sit, stay, etc.); coupled with an after-class supervised playtime to develop social skills with both people and other dogs. Upon successful completion of the class, owners will have the opportunity to take the Puppy S.T.A.R. test. An AKC certificate and medal are available for puppies passing the test.

     

    Age Requirement: 12 weeks to 1 year

    Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    Prerequisite: Puppy socialization class, or equivalent

  • AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test ONLY

    Although it is to a dog and their handler’s advantage to take the AKC Caine Good Citizen class before taking AKC Caine Good Citizen test; dogs who have previously taken and passed obedience classes are eligible to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test without taking the CGC class.

     

    • Age Requirement: 6 months and up

    • Duration: One time testing

    • Prerequisite: Passing an approved obedience class

    • Price: $20

  • AKC Canine Good Citizen Class and Test

    The American Kennel Club CGC Class is considered an intermediate level of obedience training. Along with reinforcement of basic obedient behavior; dogs are exposed to a variety of potential stressful experiences within the safe environment of our training center. With distraction training, dogs and their handlers are taught to react in a composed, confident state of mind. It is our goal, upon completion of the CGC training, that your dog will exhibit exceptionally good manners both at home and in public.

     

    Upon passing both the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class and test, dog owners will have the option of having CGC added to their dog's title record, and appear as a part of the dog's titled name. Passing the CGC test is an essential step if you are considering certifying your canine as an official Therapy Dog.

     

    Age Requirement: 6 months and up

    Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week

    Prerequisite: Passing the AKC Puppy S.T.A.R test, or an equivalent obedience class

  • AKC Urban Canine Class and Test  NEW

    The new AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen class focuses on city-dweller dogs and their special needs. Dogs living in or around cities require a unique set of skills: including waiting to cross a street, ignoring food tossed on a sidewalk, behaving in building lobbies and riding elevators. The AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen class emphasizes daily city life skills for dogs living in urban areas. Getting an AKC URBAN CGC title you are helping to create a safer, dog friendly, responsible pet ownership in your community.

     

    To be eligible for the AKC Urban CGC title, dogs must have the basic Canine Good Citizen certificate, or title, on record at AKC, and must have an AKC number (AKC registration number, PAL number, or AKC Canine Partners number). Dogs passing the AKC Urban Dog test will earn the AKC CGCU title.

     

    • Age Requirement: 12 months and up

    • Duration: 7 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test

    • Price: $150

  • AKC Community Canine Class and Test

    AKC Community Canine expands on the AKC Good Citizen Class skills, and a precursor class for advanced obedience, rally and therapy dog work. The AKC Community Canine class takes dogs and their handlers outside of the classroom, and into real life settings. Each class is conducted in a different public location, allowing both dog and handler to encounter a variety of realistic situations, interacting with people of diverse ages and lifestyles.

     

    Upon passing both the AKC Community Canine class and test, dog owners will have the option of having CGCA added to their dog's title record and appear as a part of the dog's titled name. Passing the AKC Community Canine test is the next step if you are considering certifying your canine as an official Therapy Dog.

     

    • Age Requirement: 12 months and up

    • Duration: 7 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test

    • Price: $150

  • AKC Therapy Classes

    Therapy dogs and their handlers volunteer their time to provide mental therapy through the physical touch and association of a specially trained canine. Therapy dogs and their handlers provide volunteer services to schools, hospitals, nursing homes as well as veterans associations.

     

    Therapy training includes preparing your dog to pass a temperament evaluation test; as both dog and handler will be interacting with people of diverse ages, genders, ethnicities, and disabilities.  Dogs and handlers will also be expected to stay calm and composed when exposed to unexpected as well as unfamiliar environments and situations. Training also includes the evaluation of the dog's behavior around people using a variety of service equipment, such as wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers.

     

    Special Note: passing the AKC Therapy does not guarantee that your dog will pass the Therapy Dog test, however once your dog has passed our AKC Therapy class, they become eligible for certification as an official Therapy Dog.

     

    Once your dog obtains their Official Therapy Dog Certification, they will be eligible to apply for any of the 5 distinct AKC Therapy Dogs Titles that will then be added to your dog's title record and appear as a part of the dog's titled name.

     

    • Age Requirement: 12 months and up, dog must also be physically and mentally fit

    • Duration: 7 weeks, 1 hour per week

    • Prerequisite: Pass the AKC Community Canine Class and Test

  • Come Bark in Our Outdoor Park

    Weather permitting; dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages are welcome to play in our large, securely fenced, grassy playground. Maximum of 6 dogs allowed per play session.

    • Times:

     Small dog play: [Mon thru Fri: 10am - 11am]

     Mid-size dog play: [Mon thru Fri: 1pm, 2pm, 3pm]

     Large dog play: [Mon thru Fri: 4pm, 6pm, 7pm]

     All dog play: [Saturday: by appointment]

  • Socialization Play Group

    Dogs love to play with other dogs, but often do not have the opportunity to do so. Our socialization play group is a year-round experience. Dogs play in our large fenced grassy playground when weather permits; playing indoors, in our year round training facility, when weather prohibits outdoor play. Our supervised socialization play group is a safe environment for dogs of all ages and breeds to let off steam as they learn proper play-manners.

    • Prerequisite: Restricted to non-aggressive puppies and dogs

    • Duration: 20 minute sessions

Sometimes your BFLF (best four legged friend) needs personal attention to deal with specific training needs. Happy Tails K9 Training and Agility Center offers a variety of private lessons.

    Make an appointment for a one-on-one consultation at the Happy Tails K9 Training Center. Head trainer Gale Waas has over 40 years experience in solving you and your dog's special training needs.

  • Individual Training

    Head Trainer Gale Waas is an outstanding source of valuable information, when it comes to answering and solving questions in regards to canine behavior.   • Service Dog Training

    Head Trainer Gale Waas is one of the few dog trainers in the area experienced in Service Dog Training. Service dogs are specially trained to perform specific tasks to help a person with disabilities. Please call for free consultation. Fees are based on the person’s needs, the dog’s drive and abilities, commitment, and distance to training location.

    What sets owner, and head trainer, Gale Waas  apart from other local trainers, is that she is also experienced and accredited to judge official canine competitions.
